VILLAGE LAYOUT: POELA NORTH
CLIENT: BAKGATLA BA KGAFELA TRADITIONAL ADMINISTRATION
The Village Layout of Poela North is a 600 stand layout plan to facilitate for the orderly expansion of Manamakgoteng village in the Pilanesberg area. One of the major problems facing infrastructure service delivery in South African rural villages is organic settlement fabric, making it difficult and expensive to design service infrastructure. The layout plan is an attempt to design a village extension that is both easily settled and serviced.
The layout plan was designed with special consideration to the spatial norms and functionality of the local culture. Complete with concept sewer network, the layout plan draws on the local dialect for street names that relate to area components of the settlement design.
